Best Art Inspiration Sites

Recently, I was painting with my friends and I searched up simple things to paint. In short, nothing was simple. So I decided to see if I could find a few websites to get inspiration of what to paint. To help others I decided to make a list of a few blogs/sites with the pros and cons of each one.

  1. Shihori Obata: This is one of my new favorite blogs because everything that the artist draws is really simple. There’s also step-by-step picture tutorials of drawings that are a bit more complicated. One of the only cons is that the site lags a little because of the advertisements. Overall I would rate is a 9/10.
  2. Hobbies Fun: Although I thought the title was a little silly there are tons of cute drawing ideas. My favorite things about this site are that it’s only drawings, there’s tutorials, and it’s really easy to navigate the site. Overall I would rate this site a 9.5/10.
  3. Pinterest: While this may seem obvious Pinterest is really a great app/site to find art inspiration. There’s video tutorials and also simple images to copy. Overall I would rate this site a 9/10

Suspense Journal/ Short Story #3

Okay just for an explanation, my English teacher last year made my class do this game where we wrote a short story in the span of 5 minutes. I liked the game so much I started doing it for fun. I’m starting with the suspense genre. My next suspense tool is phobias:

The Stranger’s sly smile greets me as I exit my room. “Today’s going to be a fun one, Ali.”

My stomach drops as he leads me back to the testing room. The Stranger holds the door for me, but I stop in the middle of the doorway, shocked. A white, pouch-like contraption stands in the middle of the room. It is held by multiple cords and pipes that jut out in various directions.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it.” The Stranger says, “Jervis worked on it all night. It looks just like my designs.”

Jervis is his assistant. He has a high-pitched, stuttering voice as if he wants to say everything all at once. His pale skin is bright in the hospital like lights as he limps up to me.

“S-so this is j-just like any other t-test,” Jervis says to me “We’ll p-put y-you in that rubbery bag th-thingy,” he has such a way with words, “And it will just weigh you and stuff. Then we’ll start the test.” He leads me to the opening of the bag and I step in, using my shaking hands to hold it open. Jervis closes it and a few seconds later, I hear a switch flip.

The first thing that happens is that all the air leaves my lungs. I let out a yell, but my scream dies in my throat as I suffocate.

Oh god, I think to myself, he’s pulling all the air out. I claw at the rubber quickly encasing me. This isn’t like the other tests. The sweat gathering on my body fills it. I slip and fall. Hard. I try to stand. Bam. I crash onto the floor. Again, I try to get up. Slowly but surely I manage to stand. Black dots cloud my vision. My lungs burn. I try to breathe in, but fail and make a choking noise. My whole body has a pulse. I suck in air but fail. I’m drowning. I’m going to die, I realize. Just as I start to feel my life fading, I hear The Stranger’s voice calmly say, “Shut it off, Jervis. Her vitals are getting low”

It opens and I collapse. I pant and lay there for a minute. “Only five seconds? I expected more from you. We’ll try again tomorrow, Ali dear,” The Stranger says. I hate it when he calls me dear.

Unfortunately my ten minutes ended here and so does Ali’s story.

Suspense Journal/ Short Story #2

Okay just for an explanation, my English teacher last year made my class do this game where we wrote a short story in the span of 5 minutes. I liked the game so much I started doing it for fun. I’m starting with the suspense genre. My second suspense tool is a time constraint:

He cursed under his breath as the screen flashed red again. He was down to 3 tries left on the passcode. The ticking seemed to get louder as he hurriedly made another calculation as if it would help him. He typed in another code. The screen flashed red.

“Callen, we have three minutes.” Alice said nervously behind him.

“I know, I know, I know.” He muttered.

“Cal do you know what’s a stake here. You need to speed it up.” Noah said, his voice rising.

“I know what’s at stake! It’s a literal bomb! Now shut up and let me focus.” He type in the new code. Red. “Shoot,” Callen muttered.

There was a minute left. He tried to remember anything the stranger had said that could be a code. “30 seconds Callen,” Alice said nervously.

The words “simple,” echo through his head. It was the last thing the stranger had said to them after he had locked them in.

Quickly he types in the final code, 1234. The count down stops. His heart starts racing, he gets read for the explosion. The screen goes green. He laughs out a breath. “That felt too easy,” Noah whispers.

Suspense Journal/ Short Story #1

Okay just for an explanation, my English teacher last year made my class do this game where we wrote a short story in the span of 5 minutes. I liked the game so much I started doing it for fun. I’m starting with the suspense genre. My first suspense tool that I’m using is isolated setting:

It was well past midnight and Chris was sitting in his apartment living room.

The images scattered across the floor still made no sense to him. His eyelids struggled to stay up as he stared at the seemingly impossible to solve puzzle. It was eerily quiet, which scared Chris more than he would like to admit.

Then a faint ticking noise started coming from his dining room. Adrenaline pumped through as he began to imagine all the things that could’ve created the noise. His heart pounded in his chest. Chris’s parents always swore that it got easier but, with his nerves, living alone would always seem to be scary, especially at night. He knew better than to say anything. Whenever he had watched horror movies with his friends he always thought it was funny when the main character said, “Hello?” as if the thing that is trying to kill them would answer.

He slowly stood up, heart racing, and took small, quiet steps until he reached the kitchen. The noise grew louder and louder with each step he took. He reached his shaking hand to the light switch and pressed it as silently as he could. The ticking noise seemed to grow louder than a car horn. The lights filled the dining room and there was… nothing. Nothing except a small envelope that was tucked away into a cupboard, the corner peeking out. He crossed the room, looking around with paranoia. He picked the opened the envelope and read it quickly. It said, “Can you find me?” with a small cartoonish picture of a clock at the bottom corner. The ticking noise filled the whole room and Chris covered his ears.

Although I wanted to continue the time did run out and this is where Chris’s story ends.

Six The Musical Review

When I was about ten years old and going through a heavy musical phase I discovered Six The Musical and I loved it. Six is about the six wives of Henry VIII (Henry the eighth). He wasn’t a particularly amazing king but he was remembered mainly for his wives and his death. However, this musical is not about Henry. It’s about is wives, Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, Catherine Parr. Something most people think is that Henry beheaded all of his wives, which is not true. He only beheaded two of them.

This is actually how the marriages ended between them:

Catherine of Aragon: Divorced because she couldn’t have a male heir and so Henry could marry Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn: Beheaded because she couldn’t have a male heir and Henry became interested in Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour: Died early in the marriage after giving birth to a child

Anne of Cleves: Divorced because she didn’t look like her portrait

Catherine Howard: Beheaded

Catherine Parr: Outlived Henry but couldn’t be with the man she really loved

In the musical the women talk about the hardships Henry put them through and they acknowledge how without the six of them no one would know who they are in the form of pop songs. The whole environment of the musical is like a concert and I love that part.

I would give Six the Musical an 1000/10 rating because the women in the musical are so talented and absolutely hilarious.

AI video and art generator Pros and Cons

When I was in sixth grade I discovered AI art and I thought it was awesome. My history teacher in seventh grade showed me some amazing AI tools to use.

Leonardo AI Pros:

Makes really cool art. Allows you to make animations. Has different styles of art you can use. Has the ability to generate really good random prompts and improve the given prompt with great imagery. You can delete unwanted or failed image generations. You can use other images as references.

Leonardo AI Cons:

Makes you use tokens. If you generate an image of the same person multiple times every single person looks like the first person you generated.

Adobe Firefly AI Pros:

There is no tokens necessary. Generative fill and expand is available. You can use other images as references. Can remove unwanted objects from images. Always is getting updated. Suggestions when you type.

Adobe Firefly AI Cons:

You can’t see your past generations. Not very smart so you have to be very specific with what you want.

OTHER AI TOOLS:

Runway: Generates videos really well.

Pika: Allows an image to look like it’s talking, but it looks weird.

Temp Mail: Gives a temporary email address that can be used.

Pixa Motion: Lets you add motion to images

D-ID: Makes a person image look like it’s talking. Has a water mark though.

Microsoft AI: It’s a really good image generator but you can’t use it with a school account or on a school issued computer.

Cold Girls Book Review

The book Cold Girls by Maxine Rae is about a girl named Rory Quinn-Morelli and her life before and after her best friend Liv’s death. The before story begins when Rory joins choir and she is placed next to Live in the alto section. They slowly start to become friends as Liv starts making small talk to her. The two start hanging out at each other’s houses and sneaking out to parties together. Soon Rory realizes that she is falling for Liv, who has a boyfriend. A few months later Rory is accepted into her chosen college and Liv is not.

After a few months of being best friends Rory realizes two things 1) Liv knows Rory likes her and 2) Liv might like Rory too. Just as Liv leans in to kiss her, Rory backs away (because she doesn’t want to be the person to hurt Liv like people have before) and suggests that they leave the party. The two have fun and dance the night away. They both get tired and suggest going home. A car that runs a red light hits their car and Liv dies.

The after story follows Rory after she reconnects with Liv’s parents and old friends. She starts finding peace in life and opening up to her therapist. The story ends with Rory finding letters Liv was going to give to her for her birthday. She lies down and listens to music she and Liv liked.

One thing I loved about this book is how the author set it up. Maxine Ray created the story so both the before and after story would switch off each chapter. This showed the reader how she was affected by Liv in so many ways. I rate this book a 10/10 because all the emotions were so raw and real (I cried a few times while reading it).

Cold Girls by Maxine Rae is available for checkout from the Mission Viejo Library.

Never Ever Getting Back Together Book Review

The book Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales is a well written enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy novel.

Jordy Miller’s sister married a prince and the public instantly fell in love with him. He could have everything he could ever want. He has everything he could ever want, but he wants more. Jordy wants to find love and make some money along with it, so he participates in a reality tv show where his exes try to see if they can make their relationship work again.

When Maya first finds out about the contest she instantly says no, she had her heartbroken when Jordy cheated on her and then played it off as a misunderstanding. Maya knows Jordy is a cheating jerk, but all the public sees is a sensitive, young man that never wanted to hurt her. To get revenge she devises a plan to make it to the end of the contest only to reject Jordy and discredit him.

Skye and Maya are instant enemies when Maya recognizes her as the girl Jordy cheated with, but the truth is Skye didn’t know they were dating when Jordy and Skye met. To make things worse they are also made roommates. Then, when Maya shows Skye proof that she and Jordi were still part of a long distance relationship when Skye and Jordi were dating everything changes.

Soon Skye is part of the scheme to cancel Jordy and the two girls are closer than ever. Maybe even a bit too close, as the two girls find themselves falling for eachother Maya has to make a decision, Skye or Revenge.

I love how Sophie Gonzales shapes the characters and uses the plot to make the story more meaningful. I think she did a great job showing the misunderstanding of the situation, too.

I would rate this book an 100,000,000 out of 10. I love how it is written and that you can switch between the perspectives of Maya and Skye. I deeply suggest this book to anyone who loves queer romance novels or funny comedies. Even if you don’t prefer those genres I would still suggest this book, because it is just AMAZING. I love this book and I hope you will read it and love it, too!

Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales is available to checkout from the Mission Viejo Library. It is also available to download for free from Libby.

Mean Girls Movie Review

I absolutely love the original Mean Girls movie, so when I saw the preview for the new one when I was watching Wonka, I knew I had to see it. The new one was pretty much the same, but it was a musical and they removed most of the culturally less sensitive jokes.

The movie was amazing, yet I wish they had chosen a different actor to play Cady. Although Angourie Rice was a good actor, her voice was soft and emotionless. Also, I was expecting her to have a bigger glow-up like in the original movie but overall she stayed the same.

I love how the song sequences were like a real musical- they made the whole movie come alive. My favorite song “Someone gets hurt” looked cool because the actors posed like they were frozen except Renee Rapp and Christopher Briney.

The movie captured Renee Rapp’s vocal skill while she played Regina George. I really loved the new song, Not My Fault, she made for the movie. The way she was different from Rachel Mcadams is the she upfront about being mean whereas when Rachel Mcadams played Regina as a sweet, popular girl that is actually really mean.

One of my favorite things they added is the scene where Cady talks to her mom about what she did. She connects with her mom and shows how much she still needs her.

All in all the movie was really good and funny (it definitely couldn’t beat the original, but I still really enjoyed it). I give the movie a 9.5/10. I recommend seeing it with your friends at some point even if it’s not in the theaters.

The original Mean Girls movie is available to check out from the Mission Viejo Library.
