Inside Out 2 Movie Review

Remember that one super funny movie with emotions as characters that you watched as a kid! Well, that movie now has a sequel: Inside Out 2. I recently watched this movie, and I had a blast. In this movie review, I will be giving a summary of the movie as well as my opinion on it. There may be some light spoilers!

The movie starts out by reintroducing the main character, Riley, as a teen. She loves hanging out with her friends, going to school, and playing hockey. We are also reintroduced to the characters of Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear, and Sadness. However, trouble is stirred when all of a sudden, new emotions enter the hub. Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy come in as the new emotions of adolescence. Each of these emotions have their own vibe and personality, which I thought was super funny.

The movie goes on, and eventually, Anxiety takes on a more power-hungry role. She starts wanting to control of all of Riley’s actions, and actually throws out the original emotions. This is the start of a series of unfortunate events. Without going into too much detail, the original emotions are forced to find a way back, even facing the fact that maybe they just aren’t emotions of a teenager anymore. Maybe they are no longer meant to be part of Riley’s life. This part of the movie was really sad for me, but it also opened my eyes and made me realized that this movie is extremely relatable to teens.

The original emotions find their way back to headquarters, but Anxiety is going nuts. She ends up going so crazy that she is unable to control herself, which is pretty accurate to panic attacks that teenagers are exposed to. Joy helps heal Anxiety, and at the end of the movie, the emotions are all living harmoniously.

Overall, I thought this movie was amazing and would rate it a 5/5. It is interesting seeing how I watched this movie as a kid, now I am a teenager, and I still feel that I connected to it. It also kind of brings out and heals my inner child. If you haven’t already, I would recommend watching this movie.

Film of Character “Flipped” – Community of Character Program!

On March 17, the Community of Character, an official committee of Mission Viejo, hosted a movie program in the Council of Chambers. The movie shown, “Flipped,” is about two teenagers, Bryce and Juli. In essence, Juli has had a crush on Bryce since he first moved to the neighborhood. However, he never liked her back. After years and years of trying to get over him, the movie shows how Juli and Bryce have “flipped” feelings: Bryce likes her but Juli does not. The main purpose of displaying this movie was to show its moments of integrity. Some examples of integrity in the movie are when Juli defends her beloved sycamore tree, Bryce stands up for her against his friend, and Bryce tries several times to apologize to her for a reason that will not be spoiled in this review!

After the movie was played, the board of the committee held a very valuable discussion about the movie. This discussion lasted about 20 minutes and everyone in the room was very involved. We talked about the moments of integrity and the major scenes that shifted the meaning of the movie. We also had a raffle for people under 18 that included gift cards and prizes!

Overall, going to these movie events is a great way to boost your community involvement and have fun with your friends!

The next movie is on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 pm, be there!

What to Visit in New York City!

I am lucky to have been to a few different cities in my life so far, but New York City is one of my favorites by far. The busy atmosphere, beautiful art, and crazy buildings are just a few aspects that I love. In this article, I will list a few of my personal favorite locations and things I did when I went. Keep reading if you want to learn more!

The very first place that comes to mind is Central Park. This beautiful urban park about 840 acres and is 2,5 miles long. There is plenty of space to explore. While it is nearly impossible to see the entire park in one day, I would recommend going at least a couple times throughout your stay. Of course, some notable areas inside of Central Park include the Bethesda Fountain, Alice in Wonderland statue, and the Strawberry Gardens. These are truly sights to see and are unique to the city.

Another place I would recommend visiting is the Chelsea Market. The neighborhood of Chelsea itself stands out with its high rise buildings, modern architecture, and artsy feel. The Chelsea Market is a wonderful area with various different restaurants and to-go food. It is always super busy, and the food is delicious! I had some great tacos when I went.

Lastly, I would 100% recommend watching a Broadway play or musical in New York. There are many different theatres located around the city, so pick one and watch a play or musical you are interested in! The actors are truly so talented and make the experience unforgettable. I went to go see Wicked and I still cannot get it off my mind.

I hope that these locations and experiences persuade you into visiting New York City! It is very different from Southern California, but it is nice to switch it up every once in a while. Also, it is very important to buy tickets and tours early. New York City is always booked and busy, so it is key to plan ahead. Safe traveling and hope you enjoyed!

Christmas Caroling at the Potocki Center for the Arts!

As the holiday season comes to a close, I would love to reflect on the Christmas Caroling event at the Potocki Center of the Arts that was held on December 9. Although this happened about a month ago, I think that a summary of the event would be nice for someone who maybe could not make it.

I am President of the Mission Viejo Committee of Character, so my committee had a table at this event, and a couple of the board members and I were handing out informational pamphlets about what we do. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the patio of the Potocki Center was the sweet smell of hot chocolate and the lively energy of the people attending. Every seat in the patio was filled and some people were even standing. It made me realize how joyful it is when our community gets together. Then, the carolers came out onto the patio dressed in warm, beautiful holiday clothing. They started singing at the very front and provided such an experience for everyone there. They performed a few carols, and then they moved on to a different spot on the patio. It truly was so amazing and I could tell that everyone was in awe.

Not only that, but the ambiance and overall feeling of the event was wonderful. Since it started at 5 pm, it was already dark outside. The warm heaters outside in the cold made all the difference. There were also some pretty lights hanging around the patio which really gave a perfect finishing touch to the event. As mentioned, there was also hot chocolate available, which all the kids loved. I adored seeing all the kids running around and seeing families laugh with each other.

All in all, this was an amazing event. It allowed for the community to continue feeling the warm and fuzzy emotions of the holidays, despite any stress or loss that some people tend to go through during this time. I am looking forward to visiting more events from the city!

Thanks for reading!

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Cover image for Life of Pi : a novel / Yann Martel.

This year has been a very interesting year so far, and my class has read some books that have taught me a lot of life lessons. More recently, my class read the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel. This story is about a young man, Pi, who was aboard the Tsimtsum on the way to Canada from India. He survived the sinking of a ship, and escaped on a lifeboat along with four different animals on board. Right away, readers can tell this will be a roller coaster of a book. Can you imagine being in Pi’s position? Furthermore, Pi learns valuable lessons throughout his adventure including survival and family.

I can definitely take inspiration from this book into my own life. Although hopefully I won’t have to use available resources in the middle of the ocean like Pi did, I might do some more relatable activities like camping or fishing. I also learned that maybe you think you don’t need someone in your life until you realize you do. I have definitely experienced this recently, and I know now to cherish those people in your life. Just like in Life of Pi, people come and go in your life. I think it is important to value your family and friends, and even all your belongings. You never know what could suddenly go wrong in your life, just like Pi didn’t know the ship was going to sink and change his life. Overall, I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars, and I do recommend reading it.
