As we grow up, it can be so easy to follow the path of what you think you “should” do. The career that is going to make the most money, the people in your surroundings, and even the media you consume, will all become factors in your life choices. But it is important, whilst young, to try and block everything out and put yourself on the path of who you want to be. Here are some tips to follow this summer to help young students find their calling in life.
- Investigate current interest
Everyone already has activities that they enjoy, whether it is a certain genre, sport, or subject in school. If you already know that you have fun doing something, explore it more. Read books on your favorite sports player, or ask your teacher questions after class. If nothing is immediately coming to mind, try journaling. Writing our innermost thoughts down on a piece of paper without any self-editing is the best way to connect with who you are.
- Summer Camp
Trying out different activities is a fantastic way to discover your interests. Most local high schools or after-school programs offer camps (around a week typically) in the summer. You can swim in the summer league, but there are also science or writing camps, where you can further your education. These one-week experiences are a great way to get the ball rolling on discovering the things you do or don’t like.
- Watch videos
Everyone already spends so much time on the internet consuming content, so why not look into something useful? Switching from watching comedy videos to TED-EDs is an easy thing to do. Learning about historical eras, scientific discoveries, and psychology will engage your mind and help you start to think critically about simple things. Also, you might find out about topics and subjects that regular schools do not teach.
I hope you find all this information useful and try some of them this summer. I wish you the best of luck on your journey to self-discovery.
