Are you reading for the Summer Read program this summer, and are tired of reading your mandatory summer English book? Try checking one of these books out! Hopefully they won’t remind you of the pains of school all that much…

Well, what for what most girls wish for, it turns out be a nightmare for Audrey after she breaks up with her boyfriend. Audrey has to deal with the paparazzi, changing her cell number because it keeps getting leaked to the press, and getting escorted by the police on a date with her new boyfriend. Maybe it’s a good lesson that she should never date a musician…

4. The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle 

Image result for The Infinite Moment of UsIf you loved her l8r, g8r series, you’ll love this book! This is an incredible story between Wren, the good girl who obeys her parents, and Charlie, a foster kid. And when these two people meet, everything begins to change. Not for younger audiences.

 

  1. The Unremembered series by Jessica Brody

A sixteen year old girl wakes up in the middle of a plane crash, with no memories of her life.  She has purple eyes, and so people began to call her Violet. When a mysterious boy claims he has the answers, will she trust him? Or will she remember nothing for the rest of her life?

The first book is a little bit tedious, but then it starts to get complicated with time travel and other things later on. This is the kind of serious that at the second to last chapter, you want to throw the book across the room, but then at the last page, you wish the author had made another three books.

Book Review: Wake, by Amanda Hocking

wake_coverWhat story portrays a beautiful setting of the modern world, Greek myths, horror, a Frozen-like sister bond, and a few love stories that seem at have many obstacles thrown at it? Why, of course, it’s Wake, the first book of the Watersong series.
Gemma is an ordinary teenage girl, with an older sister named Harper who is proper, a dad who is torn, a mom who lost her memories after an accident, a crush on the nerdy boy next door, Alex, and a love for swimming. She lives in a small town called Capri, in which there are no strangers. So when four absolutely beautiful girls that no one knows about arrive in town, people become suspicious, especially when one goes missing and the three girls take an interest in Gemma. That’s when Gemma drinks a mysterious potion given to her by the same three girls that turns her into a mythical siren, with a tail, love for swimming, ability to attract any boy, and a desire to eat human flesh.
This story has an excellent plot, with real-life characters and surprising twists. For those who love mythology, there aren’t just sirens; there are mentions of the Olympians, the Minotaur, and Orpheus. But the thing I feel that others would like most is the important messages, such as why we should only have sex with the right person, the corruption of power, and the importance of bonds with others. However, this book does have some more adult scenes, so anybody under the age of 13 should wait to read it.

Book Review: Wake, by Amanda Hocking

wake_coverThe Watersong series by Amanda Hocking is a fantasy series involving murder, sirens, love, and loss. The series begins with the book Wake. Gemma Fisher is a normal, pretty 16 year old who loves the ocean. She is a swimmer and longs to become an Olympic champion.

One day, four strange girls show up in Gemma’s town. Gemma used to think she was the prettiest girl there but now she wasn’t so sure. Lexi, Penn, Thea, and Arista, are beautiful. Their ravishing beauty awes Gemma– but it also raises her suspicions. When the four girls show up, talking and becoming closer to Gemma, four murders follow. Then, one of the strange girls disappears.

On one of her nightly swims in the ocean, Penn, Lexi, and Thea, beckon Gemma to come party with them, and they make her drink a weird concoction. She wakes up ashore, with many cuts and scratches all over her and she knows that something is wrong.

In a twist and turn of events, Gemma is forced to leave with the other sirens to protect her friends and family from getting hurt. Find out what happens next in the second book of this addictive series, Lullaby.
