Film Review: The Batman

*Spoiler Warning Up Ahead For The Batman Movie*

The Batman. Probably one of DC’s most known character. When someone says DC I immediately think of Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Batman was always my favorite because it goes to show that powers don’t make you a superhero.

Fear is a tool. And when that light hits the sky… it’s not just a call. It’s a warning.

The Batman Movie (2022)

The Bat Signal is what the city uses to signal Batman that crime is afoot in the city and that he needs to try to stop it. The movie starts in the apartment of the ex-mayor, who is having a phone call with someone about the upcoming election. Then after the phone call ends The Riddler, who was there the entire time, murders the mayor. This sets of a lot more events in the movie such as the terrifying murders of more elite members of their society.

He then runs into Catwoman who he teams up with to take down The Riddler. She works at this lounge where the Penguin is stationed at to hide from the cops. She later teams up with him when he goes on a mission to find the Riddler who is killing people around the city.

At the end of the movie Catwoman leaves and Batman goes back to his life, but in the Arkham Jail the Riddler has a conversation with the Joker. I hope this means that there will be a part 2.

Even Recap: San Diego Comic Con International 2019

On July 18-21st, the San Diego Convention Center hosted its biggest and arguably most fun event of the year: Comic Con. And this year, for the first time, I was fortunate enough to attend. SDCC is acclaimed for is fantastic Hall H panes, its fabulous stands of fan-made art and official merchandise, its booths of magical colorful posters and pins. Over 150,000 people attend this legendary event this year, and, as one of those lucky people, I’m going to tell you how it went down.

Now, while SDCC actually occurs in July, tickets are bought in early November and December, and are extremely difficult to get your hands on. The actual Convention takes place at the San Diego Convention Center and the Marriott next door to it. It consists of hundreds of rooms and halls in which the legendary panels and game shows are hosted, including the magnificent Hall H. On the ground floor, the huge event hall takes up the majority of the space, and this is where you will find various stands, official and fan-run, selling anything and everything fan-related.

I myself didn’t attend many panels, only 2, but both of them were fantastic. I spent most of my time doing two things: loitering around the official Marvel booth, and wandering around the event hall. Even so, it was an amazing experience. Although tickets can be expensive, I honestly think the experience is worth it if you’re a fan of anything present at the Con. And there is no shortage of options, either. The booths and panels range from superhero to anime to video games. It’s truly a place for all kinds of people to come together and celebrate the one thing they all share: obsession.

Overall, I couldn’t have had more fun at SDCC 2019. It’s truly one of the most entertaining events of the year, and I’m super excited to attend next year, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that… But in all seriousness, if you’re a superfan of almost anything at all, I recommend going to SDCC.

Film Review: Aquaman

This past week, my family and I went to go see the new movie Aquaman. For me, I personally enjoy Marvel movies better than DC movies (in my own opinion, not everyone has to agree). However, this movie was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Jason Momoa, the person who plays Aquaman played the part perfectly.

The movie starts off with Arthur Curry/Aquaman’s parents and how they met. His father, Thomas Curry, was human while his mother, Atlanna, is Atlantean making Arthur half-Atlantean. Because he is only half, the people of Atlantis reject him and call him the “bastards son”. From a young age, Arthur is trained by Nuidis Vulko, Atlanna’s loyal advisor so that one day, he might have a chance at ruling Atlantis.

Throughout the movie, Arthur’s skills are continuously tested as he faces things from spiteful half-brothers to revenge-filled humans to creepy creatures under the sea. However, he is not alone. Alongside him is Mera, daughter of King Nereus of Xebel, played by Amber Heard.

I am not going to spoil the movie so you’ll have to watch the movie to find out what happens next.

The plot of the movie is great, however it lacks comedic relief in my opinion. Despite this, everyone portrays their characters well and there is not any awkward or unnatural acting anywhere which is a plus!

I recommend this movie and is great to watch as a family.

TV Review: What is missing from Arrow?

Arrow is a great show. It is about Oliver Queen. A man who was marooned on a island with one goal: to survive. When he was found and brought back to Starling City he became a crime fighting vigilantly known as the Arrow.

I decided to re-watch seasons 1, 2, and 3. Why those seasons you may ask? Because they are the most enjoyable.

I just thought that there was too many sentimental moments in the new series of Arrow then the old seasons. In seasons 1 Oliver wouldn’t talk about his love interests. He would keep it to himself and tell no one because he has better things to do.

Another thing is that they don’t have villains that don’t have to do just with the main bad guy. For example: In season 2 they had a villain that made human dolls. In season four they just fought assassins for the first half of the season.

There is also a rule about no killing that was enforced in season 2 but he would let it slide now and then. In season one however it was all he did which made it seem like more of his character. But up to season 4 and beyond he would stop the killing with a new arrow Felicity invented that wouldn’t kill Oliver’s target.

One thing that this show answers on all DC fanboys mind is what Oliver Queen did on that island for five years. When the show was first introduced we saw Oliver who started out as a pretty boy rich kid and became a survivor and most importantly a killer.

We see his experience in and out of the island that made him the arrow. We saw this through seasons 1 through 6. The sad thing is that they will not continue the flashbacks for the next season.

That right there makes me so mad that i want to smash my TV. There is just so many things that they can do in replace of Oliver Queens flashbacks. Those are my thoughts on the new seasons of arrow.

Film Review: Suicide Squad

I re-watched this movie again and had a better opinion on this movie than I did the first time I saw it. The movie wasn’t still that good as I hoped it would be.

The story as it goes in the comics. In the comics Amanda Waller assembles a team of criminals who would go on missions that where considered suicidal. They planted little bombs inside there heads so, if they try to escape there heads would be blown right off.

I thought the costumes where great. It made every one look very flashy and cool. It definitely deserved a Oscar for the costumes.

The main thing i didn’t like was the Jokers and Harley Quinn’ s relationship. The Joker doesn’t actually love Harley. It was a perfect example of a abusive relationship. But of course they had to take that away. It just didn’t make any sense to me. I also didn’t like the Joker himself. He just didn’t seem to crazy for the big screen. If you look at the Joker in the comics he has style If you look at the Joker in Suicide Squad he is barely wearing a shirt and has tattoos all over him

Then there where other characters that i thought didn’t do anything major. For example Captain Boomerang. I thought he was a funny character to the squad. He just didn’t do anything cool that effected the mission in any way.

One thing i liked about it was that it set up a bunch of more movies. I think DC is going to use Suicide Squad to introduce more villains. Maybe something like another villain hires Deadshot to kill someone and big shocker its Gorilla Grod.

One thing that i didn’t like was that it just was simply too long. I thought it could’ve been shorter. They also tried to do flashbacks like Deadpool did. That didn’t turn out good for them because the flashbacks didn’t make sense. Another complaint was of course dialog that some people couldn’t understand but I understood it fine.

Even thought I watched Suicide Squad again I was still a little lost. If you like action movies then you should probably go see it.

Film Review: Justice League

Justice League wasn’t as good as Wonder Woman but it was a solid film that was funny and dark. I thought that it had a solid line that draws comedy and seriousness, which made it a fun film most DC fans could enjoy.

My one problem with the movie is that why have the movie now? They had this movie a year after Batman v Superman. Which is nothing Marvel had to do to build up their cinematic universe. This made it seem like that Warner Brothers were just cramming in whatever they had into a film like the Avengers. The only thing Marvel did was space out each movie. I’m just saying I thought Warner Brothers should’ve introduced their characters first.

But without a doubt I liked the film. It filled my heart with joy and laughter. They kind of introduced each character in the start of the film which made me a little happier. During the movie Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman is faced with a extraterrestrial threat. He decided to assemble a team. This team is composed of many unique individuals. I was very shocked when i learned that Josh Whedon would be doing the film. Since he has been doing the Avengers movies it made sense why he helped with Justice League.

The important thing to have in mind with DC movies is that it’s always a dark aspect. For example: Batman v Superman. The movie wasn’t a happy movie. It was a very new concept to me. I thought the dark aspect was good in the DC films. It really divides the Marvel movies and DC films apart from each other. It divides the fun filled movies with the dark and depressed movies.

If you are very interested in a different aspect then the Avengers, then Justice League is the movie for you. I liked that it at least had some comedy in there. A fan favorite character would be Barry Allen or the Flash. He was very funny in the movie which might have boosted the score up on this movie. You could have seen that this was the work of Josh Whedon. His very funny creativity with the Flash was the very many things i liked in the film.

My honest opinion of the film is a thumbs up.

TV Review: Gotham

Gotham is a crime drama series that is inside the Batman Universe. The plot takes place when Bruce Wayne was just a kid, growing up in the wake of his parent’s death. Jim Gordon, who will later be Commissioner Gordon, is the main character. Most of the drama centers around him. The villains are younger versions of Penguin, Mad Hatter, Victor ZsasZ, The Riddler, and Mr. Freeze to name a few. My personal favorite villain is the Penguin because he is very complex, and tricky too.

The storyline is very intense, and always leaves you with a cliffhanger. I feel like it has the perfect balance between drama and action. This is the only TV series that I watch weekly and am really pumped for the next episode to come out. I feel like Gotham is like a darker version of the series The Flash or Supergirl. The storyline is very well-written, however because this takes place in Batman’s past they can’t be very creative with it. For example, we know that Jim Gordon will become the commissioner, and that Bruce Wayne will become Batman.

A big con that happens is that we know certain characters can’t die or that they will come back somehow, because they are inside the movie. However even though they have to follow a set in stone storyline, they did an excellent job with it. They create a lot of suspense in almost every episode and the winter break they took was torturous to us fans. I really would recommend this series to any Batman fan, although it has its cons it still the does an excellent job with what it has and is a great series overall.

Film Review: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

batmanvsupermanBatman Versus Superman: Dawn of Justice is a film directed by Zack Snyder and produced largely by Warner Bros and DC Entertainment. It stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. This has been a hugely anticipated movie for people of all ages, breaking box office records in its opening weekend and garnering the attention of nearly every comic fan.

If you couldn’t tell by the title of the movie, Batman V Superman pits two of the most iconic superheroes of all time against each other, but it’s not nearly as simple as that. Various characters such as Superman’s rival Lex Luthor and girlfriend Lois Lane impact and shape the story.

Unfortunately, I felt that the pacing of the movie was very poor. I was very uninterested for the first 45 minutes of the film, and if it weren’t for the fact that it was Superman and Batman, I might have fallen asleep. The movie constantly jumps between different characters and rarely stayed in one setting for longer than 10 minutes, which made the story feel broken instead of a seamless narrative. However, this also built each character a bit more as it revealed how each of them had their own motivations. Despite previous doubts, I felt that all of the actors delivered solid performances, especially Henry Cavill as Superman and Jesse Eisenberg who made a very entertaining Lex Luthor.

The action and special effects in the film are top notch, with all the explosions and brawling you could ever ask for, especially between some of the famous superheroes. The only time the CGI felt a little rough around the edges was in the beginning of the film.

Even so, I really felt this movie fell flat of its expectations. They put far too much plot and backstory into one movie, trying to introduce and establish multiple pivotal characters at the same time in the same movie. They wasted too much time on build up and seemingly rushed the actual fighting between Batman and Superman, which is not even close to the end of the movie. Whenever I thought they would stop adding more side stories and complicating the plot more, they kept pushing and pushing then seemingly threw it all away in the last 45 minutes. Without giving anything away, there were multiple events where I was just shaking my head, thinking “Why would you do that?”

Overall, I felt that Batman Versus Superman: Dawn of Justice was very average as a movie and somewhat above average as a superhero movie. I’d recommend for anyone who is interested in action packed movies or is a superhero fan to go watch it. However, just appreciate it as a loud dumb popcorn movie and don’t think too hard about the story.
